What is a junk bond?

Question: "What is a junk bond?"

Answer: "A junk bond is any bond with a credit rating of below BB by the major credit rating agencies. Junk bonds are also commonly referred to as high-yield bonds. Usually they are issued by companies who have to offer the high interest rate because they have very little operating history. For this reason, junk bonds can be very risky."
